Cathe Desiree S. Nadal is a PhD researcher at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Aside from her substantial experience in Landscape Architecture research honed through years of engagement in research-based landscape data modeling, she is also a licensed Landscape Architect doing professional design and planning services for the Philippine clientele. Also, Cathe is an Assistant Professor (on leave to pursue her PhD studies) at the College of Architecture in the University of the Philippines - Diliman campus .
Her academic experiences are extensive- being able to facilitate course programmes, head activities of the Environmental Design Studio Laboratory, and coordinate tasks of the National Service Training Program of the College of Architecture. She also did advising for the student organisation UPCLAS, as well as assisting UP’s Office of Design and Planning Initiatives as its project development associate. As a professional, she designed Philippines outdoor spaces and actively participated in the Philippine Association of Landscape Architects (PALA) organization activities. Most of her professional, extension, and research practice deal with cultural and peri-urban landscapes in the Philippine setting--encouraging the management at the grassroots level of valuable places at the peri-urban. She does extensive research on advancing landscape architecture research methodologies that will develop narratives and will move forward management strategies for the important values of the Philippines landscapes. One of the pilot project she did as part of her quest to seek landscape placemaking solutions focused on resettlement sites in the Philippines- this is the Luntiang Pook Project, formerly Luntiang Barangay, a project which would not be a success if not for the fervor of the members of the whole organisation, PALA alongside its partners. Aside from her academic, administrative, and volunteer work, she is also a frequent walking explorer and a constant companion to their family's growing number of dogs and cats. You can get to see her teaching, design, and research chronicles through her instagram @cdsnadal and her soon to be launched PhD thoughtshower page, cdsnadal.weebly.com. |
