Finally had someone to join me in my first Cafe Shibuya visit! And I love toasts/bread! When UPTown Center opened its doors last 2013 (antagal na!), Cafe Shibuya was the eye candy because of its perky interior blending with its subdued tones (and did I say pretty amazing marketing photos of toasts?). It was located in front of the newly built building and getting to the parking lot made this a constant restaurant greeting. Its strategic location made it a great place to meet-up, but it was always full during the hungry days of my UP Town Center visit so it never came as an option. Yesterday finally came at the right time when it was not full of people. Planned for a nice dinner to finally get that day spent in Cafe Shibuya. And yes, it did not disappoint. Welcoming my blog site with a taste of the cultural landscapes in the Philippines. Last weekend was spent with a group of 97 to visit the wonderful town of Taal. As an educator, trips like this are encouraged to be able to let students grasp the idea of how culture and environment shape our landscapes. Heritage town trips are specifically my favorite, not just because of the more exciting "pasalubong" from the town, but because of the wonderful history it makes me reimagine. On that particular day, we were greeted by the scorching heat, a good day to take photos! We were all having fun and encouraged by the weather to prepare all the materials for the class presentations as the videos and photos were all bright and colorful. Although, in hindsight, the heat was tiring us, eventually hampering the possibility of walking longer routes to visualize Taal and San Nicolas (the old site of the Taal town circa 1700's before it was moved to its current location). Amazing details were seen at the Church Ruins in San Nicolas. I would love to see it taken care of rather than neglected, with stories of what happened to the town. Unfortunately, like most of our historical spots, the attempts always fail in maintenance and although it naturally has its charm, adding wayfinding measures will highlight its value more. Walking down to the market of San Nicolas to view the coast at the esplanade was worth it. The lake was calm, the volcanic magnificence was breathtaking, and it was an opportunity to capture visions of lives lost and renewed because of this changing landscape. Nothing excites me more than to finally get my act together to write again. That's... 10 months of non-existent drama. Hello blog!
To recap, I shall bring you to a whirlwind, that is, my 2015. It will always be the same boring life full of love (thanks to the special people in my life) and a bit of that sparkle (thanks to my visits to places I never saw before). This year was a year full of highlights - including my first trip outside Asia (hello USA!) and my weekend trips to the community project in Mindanao. Needless to say, life is just a tad bit busy. I did get a few life lessons thanks to books that I was able to put into my daily regimen. I had exercise buddies (fleeting groups, all for the love of getting healthy) and my constant who made my life into that loop of sporty (I really am not). Currently including that in the daily's and there I get my work-life balance. I am obsessing again with Nazi stories so I recently opened my web search to Anne Frank wikipedia entries, Noor Inayat-Khan, Vera Atkins, and all things secret agent related, thanks to this Sarah Helm book. 2015 is full of surprises. This book reading included. Right now, I am writing again to get myself into the act of remembering the most important days of my life. We recently lost a kitten (Crunchie) to a disease that reminded me of an old dog that I cannot even remember the name now. Pft. I realized how life chronicles should be put in writing to be able to easily remember (when brain cells will soon degenerate and fail us in the recall). And again, my failure to end a good talk to remind me that yes, I'm back! |
